This is Hattie McDaniel, the very first black American actor/actress to win an academy award. Of her many roles, she is perhaps best-known for her portrayal of "Mammy" the house maid in David O. Selznick's Civil War classic, "Gone With the Wind" (1939). She was a trail blazer who opened doors for many black actors who later went on to become American icons. I'm sure you can recall many of their names. We appreciate her contributions to the world stage, and I hope I've done her justice in this rendering. Rest well Hattie.
