Black-spotted cuscus, Spilocuscus rufoniger

July 2016. Probably the rarest species in a zoo with a fair share of rare species! A single animal (I assume male, because of the mainly white pelage, though it's hard to compare with pictures online because there aren't that many around) in a tall outdoor aviary.

How sure are you that this is a Black-spotted Cuscus?
    • Vision
Not 100%, since I'm finding it very hard to find other pictures online to compare it with and since all species in that genus are very variable. It was definitely labelled as such, though. I have more pictures of this animal (from slightly different angles) that I'll upload later!

The difficulty of identifying Spilocuscus species was what I had in mind.

      S. rufoniger are huge though, much bigger than Spotted Cuscus if you have seen them. Second only to Bear Cuscus in size I think.

I did see spotted cuscus and bear cuscus (and Sulawesi dwarf cuscus) in Batu Secret Zoo a few days prior to my visit to Taman Safari Prigen! If my memory serves me correctly, this animal was about halfway between the size of the spotted and bear cuscuses I saw there, if that makes sense.
