Description
Grows in rock crevices as well as on the beach, in direct sunlight, often in contact with sea spray.
Flowers
The yellow green flowers grow in dense umbels.
Leaves
Succulent fleshy, water-retaining leaves, Pinnate row of leaflets on either side of the stem, Bipinnate leaflets on either side of the stem, each leaflet is further subdivided. Leaflets on either side of the stem, each leaflet may be further subdivided, cylindrical in shape, ridged, succulent.
Fruits Seeds
Pod: oblong, yellowish-purplish, thick ridges, 5-6 mm.
Edible
Leaves: a salty crunchy vegetable, eaten raw in salads or sautéed in butter.
Medical
Leaves: contain high levels of vitamin C, used as a diuretic and as a cleanser, improves the digestion.
