A great man has left us.

One Piece and Naruto authors' emotional farewell to Akira Toriyama: It's too soon
ES

The passing of Akira Toriyama has left us all in shock. Sadly, the death of the legendary mangaka, creator -among other things- of the famous Dragon Ball and Dr. Slump, as well as one-shots such as SAND LAND, has been confirmed. Likewise, he participated in other works such as Dragon Quest or Chrono Trigger, video games in which he collaborated putting his creativity at the service of his art.

At 68 years of age, one of the most important names in the history of manga has passed away, as his work and his presence marked a before and after in the industry... worldwide.

Unfortunately, the author passed away last March 1, but it has not been confirmed until now. His family and loved ones have already said goodbye to him, and other great colleagues have wanted to say goodbye to the legendary author.

Shonen Jump magazine, where he collaborated for so many years, has published a heartfelt post in which they say goodbye to his former colleagues from his office, as well as other mangakas who have grown up -just like us- with his stories. So, they wanted to express their condolences and sadness with a series of letters. I, for my part, can say little more than that a legend who, like many others, marked my childhood, has passed away.

At this moment, several artists have said goodbye to him through the obituary opened by Shonen Jump, and we can see some letters, such as the one from the authors of Naruto and One Piece.

Without further ado, we can only say thank you for everything, and rest in peace, Toriyama-sensei.

Letter from Eiichiro Oda, author of One Piece, says goodbye to Akira Toriyama

"It's too soon. You've left too big a hole.

"The thought of never seeing you again fills me with sadness. I have admired you so much since I was a child. I remember the day you called me by my name for the first time. I remember when you first called me friend. I also remember the last conversation we had. He was the one who took over in an era where reading manga made you stupid and created an era where both adults and children could read and enjoy manga. He showed us a world where this was possible. He showed me that I could make it too and that I could dream of reaching the whole world.

"It was like watching a hero walking forward. The childhood of millions of people is linked to the happiness and excitement we felt when reading Dragon Ball. You influenced not only manga artists, but creators all over the world. Your existence is like a big tree whose roots reach up to the sky and beyond. For mangaka of our generation, the closer we got to you and your work, the more we realized how great you were. It was scary, but the person behind it all was very calm, and I was very happy when I found out. We ended up loving you, Toriyama-sensei, not just because of what you did, but because of who you were.

"I would like to express my deepest and heartfelt respect and gratitude to the world Toriyama-sensei created and pray for his peaceful rest. I hope heaven is a world as beautiful as you imagined it in your work."
