This is a widespread palm from Mexico to Bolivia. It has a stem 60 ft 918 m) x 30-40 cm in diameter and stongly ascending leaves. The leaflets are regularly arranged and spreading in the same plane. The male flowers have linear petals and 6 stamens. Fruits are about 4-5 x 2.5-3 cm. Many species of Attalea have been reduced into this one species by Henderson, indicating a species with variable characters.
