Alocasia Outdoor

Nature's Way Farms

Our Rare Plant Collection has been carefully crafted and hand-selected by experts from our sources around the world. These rare plants are available to avid plant collectors and the "plant curious" alike. These unusual varieties are grown using quality practices to ensure healthy, mature plants.

Care Instructions

This plant needs to be kept consistently moist, but not wet. They should be allowed to retain a small amount of moisture at all times. That said you need to be careful that it does not dry rot.

Using a liquid fertilizer, which contains a more or less equal ratio of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium will work best.

Fertilize about once every 6 weeks in the growing season (spring and summer) and once every 8-12 weeks in the autumn and winter.

Alocasia Dawn

Alocasia Dawn (U.S. Patent Pending NO. 17323485) is a unique plant from the Rare Plant Collection cultivated by Nature’s Way Farms. This plant is a RARE variety grown using the strict quality standards. This striking evergreen plant has large, marbled green and white heart-shaped leaves that are sure to be the focal point of any plant collection.

Space and Location

The Alocasia Dawn is a tall and widely spreading plant, your will need ample space to grow. Fully grown, they can be as tall as 1.6m and almost as wide. They are slow growers so don't worry you have time! Just make sure it has enough space around it to get enough light and air circulation and that other plants do not crowd it.

These plants are of tropical nature which makes them very sensitive to colder environments and they start to suffer below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Warm, summery temperatures suit them best and help them thrive.

Light Requirements

Alocasia Dawn is large, upright plant that does well indoors as well as covered patios provided the necessary conditions are right.

They do best in bright, indirect light. Do not place them in direct sunlight. The light needs to be bright but indirect or if indoors, filtered through a curtain or shade cloth to prevent leaves from scorching and burning.

Re Potting your Plant

Alocasias do not need too much space for their roots to spread. They will do well in a pot that is a snug fit for the root ball. The container must drain well and be a suitable size and weight to support the plant’s height and width, without toppling over.

The ideal potting soil is a 5:1:1 mix made by mixing 5-parts bark, 1-part potting soil or peat moss, and 1-part perlite. This creates a light, airy, well-draining mixture that still retains some moisture for slow release.

Easiest to grow alocasia I have!!!
This alocasia grows like no other! The corms even sprouted quicker than any I’ve had….i honestly don’t understand any bad reviews on this alocasia. It’s stunning! The leaves do have some yellow but a lot of white ones pop up as long as it gets good light… actually the corms had many white leaves even with lower light. I even had some corms start to rot, so I placed them on top of perlite/stratum and they STILL ROOTED and leaves popped out. Then I was able to bury them because the rotted parts had calloused. Some people just don’t know how to care for alocasias, it’s a plant that takes much research but it’s so worth the work, these plants are so much fun! I convert all mine to semi hydro because they love it and thrive. I don’t like soil at all. I use a mix of lechuza pon, perlite, & fluval stratum. You wanna have thriving alocasias? Look into this.

Size: 25-30 in. Tall in Grower PotVerified Purchase
The plant, which arrived in three days, is full, healthy, beautiful, and pest-free. A couple of leaves were broken and the pot was damaged. That was not the fault of the sellers, however, but of Fed Ex, who delivered the box upside down despite the fact that it was clearly marked. I’m very happy with my purchase.

UPDATE: As others have said, the plant appeared fine when it arrived but then quickly began dying. It turned out to be seriously rootbound and waterlogged. I have repotted it and put in in a spot that is ideal for its light requirements. I hope it will thrive, but much of its beauty is diminished because of all the dead leaves I had to cut away. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Plant arrived in excellent condition! Exceeded expectations. Was wrapped with butcher paper carefully around the entire plant with bamboo sticks creating a boundary, all in a sturdy outer box with instructions to deliver upright.

Super dense planting in original pot. I was able to repot immediately into a larger pot with fertilizer, giving space for growth. Plants took to it easily and have already shown growth.

I dont know what it is with this plant, i just cant get a good one, i love the plant because its very pretty, bit it does not stay that way for long, after a day or so alot of the leaves start to turn color an die an this just continues i paid $90 for this plant an i am so disappointed.. plus it just dont look like the pictures an it is not the size that was described, whats up with that?? I buy all of my plants on line and most of the live give or take 1 or 2,, so i cant blame on-line ordering.. This plant is just too expensive to just die like that.. i brought one for my mother for mothers day.. yes!! I did go back an purchase another one wen i got mines because like i said the plant is pretty, even tho its not as shown on line.. I got my mothers for $50 on sale plus tax. Way cheaper than mines.. well that was a mistake because as I stated mines started to die, because of that I didn’t give my mother hers for mother’s day, i wanted to see if the same would happened, an it sure did, the plant came looking ok an it had a few brown spot an i said ok, just cut those, a few day later that same thing started to happen with her plant as well. Glad I didn’t give it to my mother..very disappointed!!! I spent alot of money on 2 plants that are both on the brink of death.. :(

I was hesitant to buy when I did because it was quite cold in my zone and I was worried about delivery. It was delivered on a cold morning but it only set outside a brief time.

The first few days I lost about 4 leaves of the yellow colored leaves. I chalked that up to stress from delivery. I trimmed the browning leaves and two days later 2 more leaves were coming out. But the plant didn’t look happy. Us plant people know that look, kind of sad looking and I tried moving from an east facing window to the north side of the house, plenty indirect light but no direct light, now the plant looks super happy!

I would say that the variegation in this plant has no white, I would say it’s more yellow and green, in case anyone wants to know the color but the variegation is stunning.

Happy with this purchase!

In the past I have purchased many plants from many online sources and have had a lot of plants shipped. From the point of ordering to unboxing this was a pleasant experience. Considering this is a truly rare Alocasia, it was an extremely reasonable price. The plant is very healthy and full too. My only complaint is either it lost soil somewhere or maybe doesn’t require as much. I guess I’ll be researching the plant more.
