1/72 Azur Loire 46, Spanish Republic

Another member build, words and pictures by Glenn Wilson.

French pride baulked at buying a foreign plane when the PZL 11 won the competiton for the next French fighter, so they got Loire to quickly design a copy. The plane faired well bearing in mind the poor training of the pilots but were only available in small numbers and the French soon refused to supply more weapons to the conflict, so shortage of spares soon grounded those planes remaining.
When Azur bought out this kit it was impossible for me to resist such an obscure plane associated with the Spanish Civil War. It was not a difficult build with the exception of the resin motor which required the cylinders to be added to the crankcase – after failing this test I used a white metal Aeroclub FIAT CR.42 motor with some reshaping of the crankcase.
