Flammulina populonica, as all Flammulina, is a winter mushroom. It differs from its closely related cousin Flammulina velutipes by being slightly larger in size and presenting a more chobby stem than F. velutipes and by growing on wood of quaking aspen and other poplars (members of the genus Populus) trees.
