This is one of the classic and most common Slippery Jacks with a distribution that appears to be fairly wide. All of the collections illustrated here came from 2-needle pines -- Pinus sylvestris and Pinus nigra.

California collection -- according to H. Thiers, the name Suillus granulatus has been applied to material from California. I have seen no photographs of that material, but here is a collection that may pass for S. granulatus although that not entirely convincing. Under Bishop pine in Salt Point SP.
